Development of AIM’s Organic BarleyLife® begins in the clean, pristine farmlands near Alberta, Canada, the perfect environment for organic cultivation. Complex molecules in the nitrogen-rich soils pass on their life-giving properties to the plant. AIM’s crops are routinely rotated to put nitrogen back into the soil. This ensures that essential minerals found in the soil become bonded in an organic form with a multitude of enzymes, proteins and amino acids in the plant’s leaves, resulting in higher nutritional content.

The green barley plants are cut only once, when the nutritional content of the plant is at its peak. Upon harvesting, the organic barley is transported within seven minutes to AIM’s nearby, co-owned production facility. There, the plants are rinsed, juiced, and immediately chilled for cold-concentration into AIM’s certified organic green barley powder.

Many important enzymes have been identified in AIM BarleyLife®, including SOD, peroxidase, and catalose. Two flavones, lutonarin and saponarin, are thought to work in an antioxidant capacity, along with a host of other antioxidants found in AIM BarleyLife®.

One enzyme in particular, superoxide dismutase (SOD) appears in AIM BarleyLife® at a very high level. Researchers have long thought that SOD slows the aging process, and helps to combat many of the free radicals that cause degenerative diseases.

Recently, in a study on gene therapy for preventing restenosis (recurrent narrowing of the heart valves), researchers specifically cited SOD as an enzyme that works inside and outside cells as a powerful antioxidant to control levels of free radicals, and prevent damage that leads to restenosis.1

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has also recognized SOD. When seeking applicants for a research grant on The Role of Antioxidants in the Prevention of Diabetic Complications, the NIH specifically stated that diabetics appear to have decreased antioxidant capabilities, or reduced activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase.2
